A Public Relations (PR) internship is ideal if you are thinking of pursuing your career in the Communications industry in future. However, to many it may appear to be overwhelming as the industry is known to be fast-paced and ever-changing.

Internship ExperienceHere are 3Cs you will need if you are considering to embark on a PR internship shared by our interns, Yashmi and Davini:

Communication

An effective PR team requires a steady stream of communication flow when it comes to work progress. As an intern, your role is to assist your supervisors and help offload the team on some of the pending tasks at hand. When in doubt, always communicate with your supervisor to ensure that you are on the right track.

Many interns may be wary of raising questions to their colleagues. But as the saying goes, ask and you will be given. Your colleagues will be happy to share what they know and you can also gain new knowledge that cannot be taught in school.

Concentration

Landing a successful internship does not equate to securing your dream job yet! You have to constantly challenge yourself to take the initiative to complete given tasks capably and timely.

Concentration is central in handling tasks especially in the PR line for this is an industry where even the slightest mistake can result in a huge loss for clients. You may find it difficult to fully focus on every task every day during your internship but start by learning to direct full attention on individual tasks one at a time. Remember to take mini breaks in between tasks to refresh and refocus the lens of your mind.

Conscientious

Last but definitely not the least, it is essential to be meticulous in your handling of assigned tasks. Conscientiousness works hand in hand with concentration in performing tasks. In the PR industry, every word you use matters for the authority entrusted to the PR agency by clients as their enlisted spokesperson can make or break one’s brand reputation.

Internships are a great opportunity to take away lessons not taught in theories or textbooks. It is definitely a great experience for aspiring PR practitioners. Here at Brand Inc., we believe in investing and recruiting the best interns. We strive to provide a nurturing environment where our interns are able to challenge themselves and hopefully find their calling in the PR industry.
